About FLOW

What is FLOW?

FLOW is a UK charity, registered in Scotland - SC050666.

FLOW’s mission is to support people with mental health challenges. Historically, it was focused on helping those with PTSD and supporting serving members of the armed forces, veterans, their families and friends.

As the years passed, it quickly became clear that people suffered from PTSD that was not caused by any military connection at all, and also suffered from many different mental health challenges. Therefore, FLOW has been helping anyone with any mental health challenges for many years.

How does FLOW work?

FLOW allows anyone to write and upload their Poem, Story, Letter or Lyric to our website by registering their email address and creating their membership (no cost, no spam, no advertising).

Once registered, people can then upload their writing under their real name, anonymously, or under a pen name as they prefer (any name you wish as long as it is family friendly). Once they have uploaded their writing, it will be checked and published on our website.

Once we have checked the writing, people will then be able to see their poem and send the link to their writing to anyone they wish. Others then visit, read their writing and comment on it.

Just writing down our feelings and emotions is cathartic (providing psychological relief through the open expression of strong emotions). There is no judgment on our sites, hate speech is not tolerated, and we are all equal regardless of anything about us.

FLOW’s history:

FLOW started in 2004 as a “charitable” (not a registered charity) organisation under the original name of Forces Poetry. Back then, our focus was on the armed forces, their families, friends and veterans. Now we offer our free services to help military personnel, veterans, blue light workers, healthcare workers, people from all over the UK, and across the world, and their families and friends.

In short, our mission is to help anyone affected by mental health challenges,

due to war or any other reasons regardless of what they may be.

For many years until her passing in 2020, the wonderful Dame Vera Lynn was our patron. She was so lovely and kindly came to all our book launches.

We hope to engage several new patrons in 2026, and we’d love to hear your suggestions.
